Hey, remember back when Steve Jobs said "people don't read anymore" when discussing why the Kindle would be a failure? Heh, funny story: turns out Apple just released a device called the iPad and, at its unveiling, spent an awful lot of time showing off what a great reader it is. However, when comparing it to Kindle (as we did here) you have to think about that battery life figure: 10 hours vs. seven days. When Walt Mossberg caught Jobs after the unveiling for a little gonzo-style interview he asked about this, and Jobs said "you're not going to read for 10 hours...you just end up pluggin' it in." So, Steve now concedes that people do read, but apparently they don't do it for long without coming close to a power receptacle. When asked about price differentials between books on the devices, rumored to be as much as $5 more than on Kindle, Jobs somewhat reluctantly states that "publishers are actually withholding books from Amazon because they're not happy," and that "the prices will be the same" -- but doesn't indicate whether Amazon's prices will be going up or that rumored $14.99 price point is going down. These iPhone owners are exactly who should be the most excited about the iPad – even if they don't plan on buying one. Even before its release, the iPad has heralded a number of changes on the way for iPhone OS – and presumably, the iPhone itself.
Now, many of the changes found in the just-released iPad SDK are strictly iPad only. For example, all iPad applications (presumably excluding games) are required to support both landscape and portrait orientations – a requirement which, with some 140,000 apps already made, really wouldn't be feasible to introduce on the iPhone. Other changes, however, seem almost certain to trickle down to the iPad's pocketable brother. Apple's not officially acknowledging that any of this will find it's way to the iPhone; as is par for the course for them, they're not even acknowledging that iPhone OS 3.2 will ever make it to the iPhone, ignoring that the damned thing is called "iPhone OS". 国外科技博客Instapundit近日撰文指出，随着Windows平台的Chrome Stable跨入4.0，正式开始支持扩展和同步书签后，谷歌公司将会把一部分注意力从PC平台转向智能手机平台，打造全新的Chrme Lite，并引入云概念，推出云书签和云电话簿。
这个决策很可能是因为不满目前全球手机浏览器格局以及对未来移动网络前景的看好。目前，PC平台的挪威的浏览器Opera，苹果公司的Safari以及Mozilla公司的Firefox都先后推出了智能手机版本。
其中Opera Mini的全球市场占有率已经超过30%，而且在诺基亚塞班平台上还在攀升，而且几乎占据了整个欧洲（包括俄罗斯）市场；而依靠iPhone和iPod Touch在全球范围内的热销，苹果自家的Safari浏览器也是有撼动Opera的趋势；去年5月份，PC浏览器巨头之一的Mozilla Firefox终于推出了让Windows Mobile用户望眼欲穿的Firefox Moblie的首个测试版Firefox Alpha 1。而作为全球网络巨头的谷歌公司，除了推出了PC版的Chrome表现抢眼外，Android平台自带的Chrome Lite浏览器表现平平让谷歌有些坐不住。
而且，谷歌一向对未来移动网络极为重视，未来的手机终端将成为用户接入互联网的非常重要的途径，而仅仅依靠谷歌搜索和Android系统远远不能满足谷歌的巨大胃口。毕竟当前虽然Android系统即将迎来第一个春天，但是毕竟全球来看还是诺基亚、iPhone和黑莓的天下，而作为用户与移动网络的入口——手机浏览器就显得尤为重要。
尤其是在Firefox，这个目前全球第二大 PC浏览器，开始进军手机平台后，谷歌更是有些不安。 在过去两年里，Chrome Lite并不是谷歌专门部门研发的，而是Android团队内部的作品，与PC版的Chrome并没有太多的关系。而目前，谷歌则打算专门成立一个团队，打造全新的Chrome。
这不仅将传承Chrome的一些特质，而且将云概念引入手机，加入云书签功能（类似于书签同步）。不仅如此，Chrome届时可能不仅仅充当浏览器，还可能为用户提供"云电话簿"，使用户不再为手机失窃或者更换手机而面临的巨大号码簿输入工程而苦恼。
这将是跨平台的，不仅仅局限于Android系统，不久将推出塞班系统，将来极有可能向Safari发起进攻，在iPhone和iPod Touch平台与苹果针锋相对。 Instapundit还指出，虽然目前看来，苹果和谷歌的竞争还没有到白热化，但是全新的云Chrome的推出，将加剧两家公司的关系的破裂。看来，在2010年，智能手机市场将为我们带来更多的惊喜。
